Christmas Traditions- Blogmas No. 25- 2017

Merry Christmas🎄! I hope you have an AMAZING day today and I don't expect you will read this on Christmas day because you will be so busy but if you are, let me know how your day's going so far, in the comments! In this post today, I'm going to tell you are Christmas traditions. I wouldn't say we have that many but I find it really interesting to listen to other people's traditions! So, here are mine:

30th November

The sound of people heading upstairs clunked through the house as my family gathered in the spare room. Clawing for the bag on top of the dusty wardrobe, I pulled it down and tore it open to reveal our new advent calendars. This is the point when everybody clasped their own to their chest, leaping and bounding down the staircase, attempting to be the first to put theirs down, above the fireplace, ready for the morning.

1st December
When that morning does arrive, we have an unspoken rule that you have to eat your breakfast before you can open your advent calendar! Even though chocolate in the morning is nice, I find it hard to enjoy it first thing so I totally agree with the rule!

Weekend After 6th December
We have a birthday in the family on the 6th of December so we can't put up our decorations until that day is over. So, the weekend after, we end up decorating our house. It begins with putting up our main Christmas tree where we spend our time digging through cardboard boxes, full of Christmas magic. Eventually, we discover the right decoration to be hung on the particular branch of our tree. In our living room, there is a real tree of which is the one I just described. There is also a fake one that is our colour-coordinated tree and is a reasonable size but not as large as our real tree. I have to say, I am a bit addicted to Christmas, so I also have my own little tree that I have hung some snowy pinecones that I made myself. (You can make these using my post How To Make Snowy Pinecones- Blogmas No.1- 2017: http://ellycuriouswords.blogspot.co.uk/2017/11/how-to-make-snowy-pinecones-blogmas-no.html ). Tinsel and other bits and pieces are spread across the building and we hang fairy lights outside, turning our house into a Christmas Grotto!

Christmas Eve- 24th December

Because we spend the day looking to see if the fairy at the top of our Christmas tree has gone to tell Father Christmas if we have been naughty or nice, when she does finally disappear, it leaves everybody in the house excited for Christmas Day. Once dinner is eaten, we prepare for the next day, laying our stockings in front of the fireplace and fill our special Reindeer Bowl with a carrot and reindeer food, as well as a mince pie for Father Christmas while he’s on his busy journey around the earth. Furthermore, in a posh glass, we leave some sherry out to quench his thirst.

Christmas Day! 25th December

Excitement buzzes as we gather at the top of the stairs in our dressing gowns, ready to see if the Christmas Magic has worked this year. The youngest person will race down the stairs first and burst into the living room, shouting to the others about the state of the stockings. We find our own and tear open the gifts, showing each other what we have received. Eventually, the excitement will die down and people will begin to look more closely at their new items. The hosts will go and begin to cook a Full English Breakfast and we all enjoy the taste, early in the morning. At the end of the meal, people will suggest heading back to the Christmas tree to open the larger presents. So we do, and once again, everyone is bubbling with excitement; sharing gifts and finding out what they have been given.Very quickly, the task comes to an end and everybody calms down and enjoys the Christmas magic. Lunch arrives and we gauge ourselves on the mass of food layering the table: Turkey, pigs in blankets and more! We head back to a cosy room to relax! Dinner comes round too soon and we snack on sausage rolls (Grandma's special recipe) as well as some salad and possibly Christmas cake.

What an eventful month! I’d love to hear about your Christmas traditions, so please let me know in the comments! Also, don't forget to click that 'Follow' button, this Christmas and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Stay tuned for more,
Elly👩
